All grown up…

Luscious Blood Oranges…dark silky chocolate and little crunches of crystallized sugar…
I love Oranges. Those bitter, yet grown up flavours of the sharp citrus and dark chocolate are two of the most sophisticated tastes I know.
So often I see those gorgeous jewels in the chocolate shop, laid out in neat rows on their silver trays and often think, I must make those someday…
Today folks, is that day!
With a little time and patience, you too can have the citrus scent of choc-dipped blood orange segments mingling in your home…
That’s right, grown ups live here…

Wow, this must have been amazing to do, and very grown up! Your photos are superb!
Hi Lorna, hope you’re enjoying the start to your weekend. There’s been a lot of happy cooking and baking here of late and these ones were a definite win! It’s funny because I sometime look at my pics and wonder if I could improve on a few of the angles, lights etc but I’m happy to have your great feedback anyday!
Choc orange is my very favourite flavour. I could never make these as I would consume the lot in one sitting. Oink. These look so sophisticated and fancy. Gorgeous.
Thanks Hungry Mum. I know, choc orange is so moreish and highly addictive. As you guessed it, so are these but I promise it’s worth the fuss
Have a gr8 weekend and happy cooking!
The pictures are great! The dark background and deep orange…oh so beautiful! They are such a perfect contrast…love them as much as the orange combo. Never made this but does the rind still taste bitter after?
Actually the rind caramelises a little so it has a lovely Marmelade like flavour. If you don’t like the rind you could try the segments without (but I’m a sucker) for tart citrus flavours. My guy much preferred this with the chocolate whereas I liked both the sugared & choc versions
Your photos are gorgeous!!!!! And nothing beats candied oranges
Hi Cakewiz, thank you! Glad to see I’ve got another person for team orange! Thanks for stopping by too,
wow — beautiful images and wish I could try one dipped in chocolate right now (even though it’s breakfast time)
Thanks Danny. I remember a long while back you had some gorgeous choc truffles (on your blog, a gift I think?) I felt exactly the same way then! I was thrilled with the blood oranges & how well they came up in the pics. Still using my iphone4S for all my pics here.
You do a wonderful job with your photos and you have a great memory
Chocolate and orange go so well together…nice job. Love your first photo…would you possibly share how you got such a great photo with the black background?
Hi Karen, I agree, for me choc orange is up there with choc mint (orange in the lead perhaps!) As for the first pic it’s simply the Blood Oranges on a black dinner plate and I placed the plate on my black dining table, (my dining table is black glass & chrome.) Hence there’s a reflection in the bottom RHS of the photo. I use my iphone4S for all my pics and I tend to focus on the subject and (blur) the background.
Also I took this photo around 2 or 3pm (so the time of day) plays a part in which angle the light will hit the shot. Good luck!
These are lovely! A classic combination of tastes with your own little spin. I imagine it’s pretty hard to not eat all of these in one sitting
I promise I didn’t! But when they first came out of the oven it was a free for all!
These look delicious- and beautiful pictures!
Thanks Alicia, very glad you like the pics. Promise it was as tasty as it looked
ooooo…these will be perfect for Halloween! Yummy!
Lol, thanks Dottie. I had considered the colours looked quite festive too,
How lovely! Indeed, very grown up and sophisticated. Your choc dipped blood oranges look like they came from a chocolaterie. Well done! Your photos are gorgeous–love your use of the dark background. Très sophistiqué!
Hi Sriprae, thank you! I was channeling my inner chocolatiere. I had a lovely tray of blood oranges and just got very inspired. Everyone thinks its a photo trick but I simply used a black plate, luckily the colour stands out beautifully
Even more brilliant, the use of your black plate!
Can’t wait until the next time you channel your inner chocolatiere. Dark chocolate has a special place in my heart.
I will be ‘channeling’ more frequently if the weather refuses to warm up soon!
These look wonderful! I love blood oranges and dark chocolate.
Thank you Richard, I was very pleased with the end result. Makes me think I might invest in a dehydrator one day. Freeze dried raspberries and more could be my party trick!
Oranges, the taste of sunshine! And with chocolate, even better! It keeps you smiling!! All day, every day!!!!
Thank you. See there’s real fruit in there (that counts as partially healthy right!) That is, until I go and smother it in chocolate!!!
Wow! Your blog is all grown up, too–quite a snazzy new look you have here, girl.
Hi Robin, thank you! I figured a change is as good as a holiday (or vacation.) I think it’s good to make little changes every now and then, it always feels fresher when you come back too, (such as you’re doing for your blog
) I went a bit nuts recently on a baking frenzy, hence my posts as a result!
Impressive!
Thank you, hopefully it keeps you all coming back for more!
Of course!
Aww, thank you! Have a great ‘rest of the weekend!’
What a great idea, I so like this
Thank you, simple but tasty so hopefully a winner for all!
Oh, these make me happy! Looks wonderful!
Hi Laura, thank you! Glad you stopped by and even better something you can enjoy too!
Wow, those orange segment arrangements are gorgeous. Chocolate and orange is one of my favourite combos. I wish I could reach through my screen and grab a slice of that blood orange lovingly enveloped in that deep, dark, decadent chocolate!
Sending you some Choco orange vibes your way. Is it evil if I tell you they taste amazing frozen, like choc orange icecream!!!
Yes, very evil! And totally something I would say to really rub it in
Lol, I have to hide things from myself sometimes too…
