Whimsy, Weekends & Jam Tarts
by girlinafoodfrenzy
Wistful Weekends mean many things to me. After working (quite a few weekends,) it’s nice to relax and enjoy some solid ‘me’ time again.
Surrounded by some beautiful light and a well stocked pantry can only mean one thing… a baking frenzy. I know I’ve succumbed to these more often of late, but (truly) I know I need some help!
I know I need help in choosing not to slather my toast in potfuls of ruby, raspberry jam.
I know there are packets of hazelnuts, brown sugar and buckwheat sitting idle in my cupboards.
So I figure it’s time! It’s time for a bit of whimsy on the weekend & these Buckwheat & Hazelnut Jam Tartlets may just save us in time for Afternoon tea!
Make haste… lest we be late, for our very, very, important date…

You should name your blog “Alice Lau in Wonderland”. Its so pretty with the tea sets and everything and that’s what it reminds me of.
Hi! Thanks for stopping by. A pretty theme for some pretty things. I did think about the title before I started, but sadly someone (who wasn’t even named Alice) had already taken it, lol!
Love love this! Those tarts sound phenomenal, and not overly sweet- my favorite kind. And is that an Alice in Wonderland spoon or just a figurine? Either way it’s awesome.
Thanks Omeletta! The tarts are so crumbly and the hazlenut is as tasty as it gets! The Alice motif is actually a little brooch (a birthday gift from a friend!) v glad you like
How cute those are and I’m sure they taste every bit as good. I love baking with buckwheat flour.
Hi, thank you! Buckwheat flour is a new favourite and I’m happily trying it in a few things other than pancakes, lol. The jam is so goey, I loved it with the hazelnuts!
What a great way to enjoy your weekend! I love your photos and the compositions!
Thanks Danny, the shot of pink in the flowers brought it all together. I know you don’t usually bake but it’s tasty & wholesome if you ever get the urge!
Lovely! Whimsical tart for a delightful afternoon tea. We must be on the same wavelength because this weekend I bought a gorgeous and “whimsy” book entitled “The Vintage Tea Party Book” by Angel Adoree. The design, layout, images, recipes and ideas are over the top brilliant. My dilemma is choosing what to make first.
But then that begs having a tea party, doesn’t it? If so, you’re invited!!
Beautiful pictures, Alice!
I know that book! I actually sent it to a friend for Xmas last year
its gorgeous isn’t it. There’s something about tea time treats that look pretty and make you feel indulged. I’m thrilled you like the pics, it’s always nice to have great feedback!
Utterly beautiful photographs! And a smashing title, as always, a bit of whimsy for the weekend sounds perfect to me.
Hi Lorna, thank you. Teatime treats and sunny afternoons remind me of your lovely posts too. The titles have been lacking of late, but I think this one packs a punch!!!
Thank you, very kind of you to say so, but your titles never lack! It must be said, however, that this is particular corker!
Aww! You’ve made my day, thank you!
These tarts are absolutely stunning my friend, beautiful job
Lovely photography too!
Cheers

Hi CCUru! Thank you, the last of the jam tarts have come and gone but I’m thinking lime curd for the next batch
Wow, this crust looks like something I could have on my new diet! Thank you so much! They look delectable….
I’m thrilled! I was wondering if it’s something you might enjoy, as it has lots of wholesome ingredients. Guessing the jam might be out, but a stevia compote with berries would be lovely too
You could play around so much with this recipe! I’ll look forward to making them–I seem to be spending every weekend in the kitchen at the moment, which is crazy because it’s been 80+ degrees out here! Will share when I make them…maybe when it cools down! xo
Me too! But then my baking hat is on all the time in winter
I always love getting a glimpse into your weekend treats! And this is just perfect for teatime.
This one looks to be quite popular! How lovely that an old fashioned jam tart can be a winner!
How good is that jam?! I love it! Sounds like you had a lovely weekend.
Thanks Cate, it was so gorgeous aside from a few windy moments as you know! Feels like Spring is nearly sprung here
I can’t decide which I love more…the tart, the idea, the photo composition or Alice! I am inspired yet again!
It was a great bit of fun, as I mentioned to someone, I just kept chucking things into the shot until it popped and looked great on the page! That and the tarts were tasty
I love that photo! fabulous composition. (and the tartlets look delish too!)
Hi Jessica, thanks for stopping by and thank you for your complement! I’m a bit of a kleptomaniac when it domes to Lewis Carroll and Alice (my namesake!) The tarts were popular too and not just with me either!
They look so elegant and fancy! When I look at your setting, it makes me feel relaxed and put my feet up and have a bit of tea!!!
That’s perfect! For me food blogs are my perfect mini break (when I sit down) to read, alongside a cup of tea and some lovely tasty snack! Delish
Mmmmmmm….
Very lovely with a cup of tea!
Dare I say that your delightful tomato tart and these little jam tarts might be an afternoon tea made in heaven!
What a beautiful post!! The photos and the composition are wonderful…really transported me back to childhood. And raspberry jam tarts are great. Actually, anything with some raspberry is pretty great! I am yet to venture into tart making- I really need to try my hand at making tart and pie crusts. Glad you enjoyed your weekend!
Hi Meenakshi and thank you for stopping by! The tarts were a real delight and the ‘Alice theme’ just seemed appropriate for afternoon tea! Thrilled you enjoyed it and I agree, raspberry anything is pretty fabulous! Happy cooking
Alice and tea parties- you can’t have one without the other! Very pretty indeed.
Thank you again! Hope you get a chance to indulge in a nice tea soon!
Oh my gosh Alice!! Your pictures are BEA-U-TIFUL!!!! Absolutely gorgeous!! Also, your tarts are so pretty! Very afternoon-tea-esque. lol. Love them!
Hi Sammi, thank you so much! It was a lovely day for pictures and pretty things so I enjoyed them very much! It was actually a very wholesome recipe too (except the butter, but even then worth it!) I think the buckwheat and hazelnut meal fooled me into thinking they’re healthier
Magazine-worthy! I’m utterly stuffed from supper, but I could probably squeeze in a tiny tart. Lovely post!
Thank you! I must admit that I ate a good few of these, not all but a few at least. I have to give credit to the props & the theme, hard not to be inspired by my favourite story! V glad you liked
