Lazy Summer days… Hazy summer days. It’s been far too warm to contemplate these heat filled summer days in Sydney. Between 38-45C I have swam, I have sipped quite a few G & T’s in my afternoons and I’ve also contemplated a few new changes coming up soon on the blog, one of which you can enjoy above.
In other news I recently entered the Sydney Morning Herald iphoneography summer competition. I’m very grateful to be shortlisted in the first week’s entries, of which you can find my picture here.
My oven and I are currently on hiatus, school holidays are nearly over and work, well it ticks on quietly… Wherever you are, I hope your days & evenings are filled with warm comforts (in the cool) and cool cocktails (in the warmth…)

I love your video! The first part of it reminded me of the film Amelie. You are a very creative and artistic lady.
That heat sounds horrendous, you wouldn’t want to be slaving over a hot stove in those temperatures, I’m glad you’re sipping on cooling drinks. Nice for me to think about now though, with the snow falling outside. Congratulations on your iphone pic too, that’s great!
Thank you Lorna, Amelie is up there as one of my favourite films, I’d love any comparison to that delightful movie, honestly
As for the heat, it’s been incredibly hot. I can’t recall having been that assaulted by the sun in a while, lol. But I do love daylight savings and longer days too!
There are always plus points aren’t there? Long daylight hours sound wonderful right now. Amelie is a great film isn’t it? It has a lovely quirkiness about it that your photos remind me of, not just in the video but in your pictures in general.
I love that you think that! With the photos I’m never sure if I use these (vintage filters a little too much,) but I’m enjoying my new side projects so hopefully I’ll have much more to show you all in the future
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement!
Congratulations on all your accomplishments! Simply LOVED your video. Well done!
Thanks Sriprae, I had together very handy with the editing but I’m enjoying my new found projects very much! Glad you enjoyed too
Congratulations my friend on such a brilliant video
You are so multi talented!

Thanks Uru, it’s great to have such wonderful feedback. Much appreciated!
Looks mighty good! Love your videos! I’m making soups to keep warm and you’re making salads to keep cool, how delightful!” My,isn’t technology wonderful!” Stay cool!!!
Salads and wine seem to be a good combination. I’m enjoying a little side hobby of film making and summer light. Hope all is well in the warmth of home baked Yum Yums!
I so absolutely love your video! Fabulous! Love the beet root salad, Yum! A woman of many talents Alli
Hi Karista, thank you so much! I just needed to mix it up a little on the blog so (hopefully) I’ll become more comfortable with film as a new medium for my work. Hope all is well with your girls, the chicks & Ranger Craig
The Vimeo is awesome! I want more!!!
It’s always a pleasure to read your blog;)) xx
Thank you lovely! It’s a pleasure to share recipes and exchange ideas. You have such a beautiful & tasty aesthetic too!
I just need a new challenge now and the videos are the next step in my overhaul of this blog. Very glad you liked it and there will be more!
Ah yes- there’s the pearled barley salad. I’ll try it this week. Thanks!
Very welcome! With a little salmon or trout tossed through it reminded me of kedgeree, yum!
Wow congratulations on being shortlisted in the herald its a big thing. Wish you all the best
Thank you! I have my fingers & toes crossed too
Beautiful Alice! I especially love the rustling of the leaves outside your kitche as you’re chopping the veg! I am sure you will do amazing, I look forward to seeing more! Oh, and the salad, divine. I love beetroot! Yum……hope these lazy hazy summer days last and last!
Thank you Carla
There’s something so wonderful about beautiful sunny afternoons, cooking by the window and looking out to the garden (or courtyard in our case.) I wondered if the leaves might have been going too quickly when I sped up the film too, lol. The salads are perfect as its insanely warm right now, beetroot is perfect any time and any season!
awww! Loving the video Alice!! Wow you’re really good at editing and stuff!! I’m always scared when it comes to video editing. haha.. Great job my dear!!
Congrats on being shortlisted too!! I’m very excited for you
xoxo
Hi Sammie, thank you! It took about a weekend a half, including the actual cooking. Then came the trimming, filters, editing and then text & lastly soundtrack. In hindsight it only takes about 3 hrs plus writing time to cook & publish (if I’m on a roll!)
It’s been a great lesson to see if the ideas translate into video media and I’m v happy with the results! Re the pics for the herald it was a really nice surprise!
I loved the video, especially the first piece of music. I am sitting wrapped up and rather cold with snow outside and the heating struggling to cope – fancy swapping places? Even with freezing conditions your salad looks very tempting. Congratulations on your listing.
Thank you Maria. I just wanted to try some new challenges for the new year and I loved exploring food photography and such in 2012, so for 2013 I wanted to step it up with some videos. So far so goo, we’ll see how it all goes.
Regarding the photos I was just thrilled to be included with such talented folk.
Good luck in the photo competition, yours is a very creative shot! Love it!
The video was terrific as are the recipes.
Love the video! Very well executed, like all of your dishes…
Thank you! I decided I needed a new outlet for my creativity and luckily I have lots of willing friends and helpers who are willing to participate in the foodie fun. Hope you’re settling into the new home well and look forward to seeing what’s cooking soon
Alice! How did I miss this one??? again, LOVE the video!!!! and love your beautiful table setting and the salads!!! I need to get my video recorder going. . I have no idea what to do. . but I LOVE what you are doing!!! Makes us feel like we are in the kitchen with you!
Cheers!!
Hey Alice, lol, glad you do love the videos cause I love having your fabulous feedback “Anytime!” As for the videos, I think you’ve just got to dive straight in! I’m happy to chat apps, editing software and all that (when you do.) Do you have a Vimeo account?
I think we’d all gladly like a sneaky peek into your kitchen sometime soon too
Yum!
Even in the depth of european winter this looks amazing!
Thank you so much! It’s the height of summer here so at the moment it’s a no bake and BBQ only household. Nonetheless, we still need dessert
Whoops and salads of course!
Lovely. I have a ton of pearl barley in my cupboard, usually just make risotto with it but the salad sounds great. White asparagus has just come into season now.
Sounds like a great combination. White asparagus is so expensive here in Australia, often at $10 a bunch (yikes!) I think you’ll enjoy the grain as a salad, it works beautifully in soaking up lots of lemon and juices from the veg
