Out & about this time, with Ippudo Sydney. My sweetheart & I dined as guests recently, in the heart of the Sydney CBD.
The warm interior houses a modern curve of wooden waves, which hug the ceiling. Dotted about are some rather cool graphics, amongst the unique decor.
We began with the refreshing Yuzu sake soda & Asahi beer.
Two perfect little buns appeared not long thereafter. The Ippudo Pork Belly bun, meltingly soft with a sweet & tangy sauce. Followed by the Crispy Shrimp bun, chilli mayo sauce.
My other half thought these were the perfect morsel to accompany the beverages, one which I echoed.
I opted for the Avocado & tofu tartare. So refreshing in their little bamboo cones, nestled in a bed of ice. Almost like a grown up savoury soft serve.
A slathering of the accompanying, umami filled, sesame based sauce makes them come alive. There’s a pleasantly smooth tofu in the base of the cone. For me, this was the ultimate preparation of my palate, for the silky broth about to come.
My other half opted for the Ebi-chicken wings. Perfectly Crisp with a slight hint of pepper, makes them oh so delectable. As you might have guessed, I stole one!
There’s an incredible knowledge from the wait staff, when asked for your Ramen order.
From the style of broth preferred, to the texture of noodle, firm, medium or hard. Incredible patience was shown to us as we ummed & ahhed.
We chose the Ramen-Akamura Shinaji (special.) With delicately simmered pork belly, roasted seaweed & bamboo, tonkotsu broth & accompaniments.
And the Karaka-Men (Special.) With a Tonkotsu broth, spicy with miso & pork (Special) with Pork belly, seaweed & bamboo shoots
The noodles were cooked to order, firm to the bite. Nestled in the silkiest of broths.
I loved the accompaniments on the side, including the little sesame grinder so you can amp up the nutty flavour in your broth, should you wish to.
We agree they are the best Ramen to be had in town. Warm satisfying and the ultimate comfort food, on what was a bitterly cold winters night.
Last but not least, we spilt a dessert.
The Green tea fried ice-cream, is served with an array of crispy noodles, goji berries and a surprise of cornflakes. Slightly chewy on the outside, it gives way to a vibrant matcha flavoured inside.
The cornflakes might not be your thing. But if they are, then be sure you check it out, as it’s seasonal treat only & not available all year round.
Plus, isn’t it always great to see a few coloured sprinkles, thrown in for fun ;)
Definitely a popular spot with both a queue in the daytime & the evenings. It was incredibly popular the night we dined. If you’re in the Sydney CBD, it’s well worth a look-in (en route) to a film, the theatre, or indeed make it your main event.
The final amount would have totalled $100 approx, for drinks, starters, side dishes, 2 x Ramen specials and a dessert.
